Start Tackling Economic Issues

Honeywell and Teamsters Local 1145 bargained intensively Jan. 15 through 19 to reach a new contract agreement.

This week, the company and Local 1145 continued bargaining on non-economic issues. So far, the company and union have reached tentative agreements on a number of non-economic issues. This is due to the hard work of both committees.  There still remain a number of non-economic items to be resolved.

On Thursday, the teams began to focus on economic issues.  Local 1145 presented its comprehensive economic proposal to the company.  The proposal covered wages, health/welfare, and pension issues.  On Friday, Honeywell presented its response to the union’s proposal.  While there are significant gaps between the union and company proposals, the bargaining teams are committed to working as hard as it takes to reach resolution.

Local 1145 has reserved the Minneapolis Convention Center on Sunday, January 28, 2007 for a vote to ratify the contract.  The vote will be held at 11:00 a.m.  Arrangements are being made to provide buses for transportation to the Convention Center.  Golden Valley , Stinson and Coon Rapids will be designated pick up and drop off locations.  More details will be provided once finalized.

Negotiations will resume Monday, Jan. 22.

Resume Bargaining

Honeywell and Teamsters Local 1145 resumed bargaining Jan. 10 to reach a new contract agreement. Discussions continued to focus on non-economic issues.

During this week’s sessions, the subcommittees formed earlier reported back to the full bargaining team on the results of their work. The subcommittees had been addressing transfer and bumping; reviewing 40+ years of Letter Agreements; developing a vacation selection protocol; and developing a procedure to be used when the company intends to let out a subcontract.

Each team spent many hours brainstorming solutions that would meet the needs of both the company and Local 1145.  As a result of their discussions, some tentative agreements on the issues have been reached, and good progress is being made on the remaining issues. Honeywell also provided the union with a comprehensive proposal to resolve all non-economic issues. Local 1145 representatives will review the proposal and respond when negotiations continue next week.

           2006-7  Contract Negotiation Information

Dear Local 1145 Member

This is an update from Trustee Brad Slawson, Sr. regarding your local union and the contract negotiations between Local 1145 and Honeywell, Inc.

First, your local union update. Since the trusteeship began in August of 2005, there have been many challenges that had to be dealt with. Putting the local on solid financial shape was my first priority. When the local went into trusteeship, the local was loosing money most months and did not have the finances to handle the day to day dealings in the local. Since the trusteeship the local has gained more than $200,000 in net worth. This is mostly from not having to pay full time officers to handle the day to day operations. As the trustee of Local 1145 I don't take any salary from the local as I am paid by the international union. I have three part time agents that handle the grievances that are paid a stipend for their many hours of work which has resulted in the savings outlined above. We are now having arbitrations heard on your grievances and have  many arbitrations scheduled to be heard in the very near future. The trusteeship will continue for at least three more months when there will have to be a decision on how the local will continue after the trusteeship. I don't believe that the local can survive on its own with the large amount of work that needs to be done on a day to day basis. A merger with another local will be necessary for the members to be protected. I will continue to update the membership on this issue as we get close to the end of the trusteeship on any and all possible mergers.

The contract negotiations will start very soon and continue until there is a new contract in place to vote on or there is a need to vote on a possible strike. I believe we have a very good negotiating team that can get the job done. I, along with my team of Brad Slawson, Jr., Louie Miller, Ed Barnum and your Local 1145 stewards and elected negotiating committee members will keep you informed through this website. You should check this website every  Friday from this point forward. Local 1145 has many contract proposals to negotiate with Honeywell and I am sure the company will have many to talk about as well. Please keep a positive attitude and show support for your negotiating team. If you should have any questions on the contract negotiations, please ask your stewards or call myself at 651-204-4100. I look for the contract to be completed on time but, if necessary, we can go beyond the contract date, however for this to happen the negotiations will have to be progressive.

I am looking forward to your full support during these exciting but serious times.

Fraternally,

TEAMSTERS LOCAL 1145

Brad Slawson, Sr.

Trustee
